American Government

The American government is the greatest, worst government in the world. As there is a huge amount of freedom and democracy, corruption seems prevalent around every corner. A government once founded by the people and for the people now seems to be run by huge corporations and has systems that show no results for the people.
As the economy weakens many Americans can not handle their ongoing financial demands. In need of help the government simply offers unemployment for a period of time. This is simply throwing money to temporarily avoid devastation while many civilians will struggle to find a job anywhere near the level of their previous one. No new skills are being taught and there is absolutely no benefit for the country while ready and willing workers do not have work. Why is the government reluctant to look back at past success in history? In the last Great Depression, which was far worse then the economic hardships of today, a brilliant program worked to create employment opportunities and better America. This was called the WPA and gave jobs to artists, musicians, construction workers, and factory workers alike. Great projects for the public were initiated as this program helped the American people back on their feet. The USA now needs to spur industry and re-boot the economy, which will be difficult to do under the backwards systems of today.
Looking to the root of economic failure in America there is one connection that can be made, and that is war. In the years before Bush’s presidency America was in surplus for the first time in history, 8 years later the US is experiencing one of the greatest debts it has ever been in. Through these 8 years there have been two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Iraq, the more costly war, is believed to be unnecessary by many Americans. It is a war fought because of untrue beliefs. This brings up another question if one is accountable for telling the truth in court and in life why are there no repercussions in government for lies? The American people were told that Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction; however, this was not true. In business a CEO would be fired for lying, in court this is called perjury, but for the president of the United States it is alright. This war then continued to put America into incredible debt costing billions of dollars a month and many soldiers’ lives.
These corrupt aspects of American government often overshadow the great parts which made America one of the most influential and powerful nations in the world. Democracy and the peoples power to elect officials creates an atmosphere where those elected must cater to everyone’s needs rich, poor, male, female, Caucasian and minority. For many years some of these categories were discriminated on, but today everyone is truly equal. The evolution of American government has formed to meet the needs of every individual. In colleges minorities now have great opportunities to be accepted and attend. In the work place women and men are finally becoming equal. In the campaign for presidency there is a black man running for president and a woman running for vice for the first time in history. In many countries certain people are discriminated against. In Muslim cultures women do not have the same rights as men. In South Africa, which has a majority of black citizens, all of the officials are white.
Another great aspect of the American government is its capitalistic economy with certain restrictions and regulations to keep the civilians safe and protected. Unlike socialist economies civilians can choose their profession and work hard to become wealthy. This idea created the rags to riches dream in America, giving hope to people from every class. In our market inspections keep consumers safe. Food ingredients are labeled and health hazards are prominently displayed. In some other countries food production is not regulated, possibly putting unsafe items on store shelves. Another regulation vital to Americas economy is the anti-monopoly system. There must be competition to create a free market economy. If one company begins to control it is regulated, an example is when Microsoft came with nearly every computer the government made it so the software must be purchased separately giving room for competition.
America’s government is most certainly not perfect; on the other hand it is not the most horrendous either. A balancing act with the population, other countries and economy creates the greatest, worst government in the world.
